A simple walk in the New Mexico wilderness both enthralls and terrorizes me. Suddenly, a desert thunderstorm creates whirling pools of blindness or iced rivers propel an irreversible slip of bone and muscle. Based on treks to desolate mountain peaks and desert lowlands, my paintings accept the rupture: eerie, barren, stressed, shadowed, beautiful otherworldly places cultivated by human-inspired encroachment. Landscapes where motion, stone, and gravity collapse our flimsy identities. Lifting our gaze toward form and emptiness, hovering between the seen and unseen. There are hefty doses of crushing physical side effects as well.”
