December 2017
By Sandra Tyler, Editor-in-Chief
November was an exciting month, as we announced the winners of our first annual art and literary competitions. To see and read the works of these standout talents, you can access the winners issue here. We are already beginning to formulate next year’s competition, and right now looks like it might be for photography and poetry, so start polishing those lenses and honing those stanzas. We will keep you updated in the new year to confirm, and hopefully post earlier submission dates, as well as who will be our 2018 guest judges.
A heads-up as to what is in store for December: something new that I’m personally excited about and hope to expand, WTP art correspondent posts. These posts will be recaps of the previous season, so look this month for highlights from fall art scenes. My goal with these art roundups is to bring to you a kind of virtual tour de force of what you otherwise have missed, with strong images and reflections on exhibitions. And having these art correspondents out in the field is also helping to spread the word about WTP, as they are all issued business cards to distribute to galleries as well as artists they think should submit their work to our magazine. If you are interested in becoming a WTP art correspondent, you can write to me directly at editor@thewoventalepress.net. So stay tuned for these correspondent posts, which will start going up December 15th–19th.
As to 2018: Unlike in past years, we will be publishing a January issue, as we have had to push our December contributors out due to the release of our special edition. So instead, we will be taking off February—there will be no issue, but we will still be posting regularly on the site, so keep us bookmarked! With the annual addition now of these competitions, we need to rethink our schedule going forward, but look for WTP Vol. VI #2 issue in March.
Last but certainly not least: We’ve announced our Pushcart nominees. The final selection was a particularly challenging one, as 2017 has been a year of publishing so many remarkable talents. Congratulations—I am proud to be your editor. And I wish you all a creative and productive 2018.
