wire mesh, spray paint
48.5″ x 39.5″
I create figurative sculptures from wire mesh (a galvanized steel used in construction). While most forms of sculpture are additive or reductive, I enjoy the unique challenge of manipulating a form out of a single flat sheet, where no material can be added or removed, and no crease erased. Drawing from a sketch, photo or memory, I form the figure freehand. There are no molds or casts in the creation process, so each piece is a one-of-a-kind. Each finished piece assumes the form of a relief and is approximately five to six inches deep.”
